Bolduans Bay Oysters are the producers of Tarkine Fresh Oysters and supply 410 tonne to mainland Australian markets in the season of December to March each year through its marketing company Tas Prime Oysters. Sales into the winter months are dependent on rainfall. BBO also produce juvenile product for other farmers within Tasmania. The Duck Bay tidal flows have also proved an excellent growing area. The water exchange, a rise and fall of up to three metres, provides the oysters with a clean and fresh food source resulting in exceptional grow-out rates. The excellence of the growing environment and internationally recognised Tasmanian Government administered Shellfish Quality Assurance Program ensure that Tasmania produces Pacific oysters (crassostrea gigas) of the highest quality. Duck Bay, Smithton, where our oysters are grown only take 10 mins or less to get to via boat from our land operations. The farm has 77.7 hectares leased from Crown Lands. There is over 33,000 metres of oyster racking capable of holding 65,000 basket and tray units. Stock on hand is currently 18 million. Currently Bolduans Bay Oysters employs 23 full time staff. With the move into tourism, newly constructed processing facilities are currently underway to support the 12 seater cafe attached to the main building.
